Brisa Loca @ Santa Marta

Brisa Loca is one of my favorite hostels in the world. Not that I know a lot, but I always fondly remember the bar section, where you can enjoy a delicious omelet for breakfast for the hangover, or a burrito for lunch with some beers on the side to re-jumpstart yourself and prepare for a pintoresque afternoon with your favorite allies.

Many hostels would offer exactly the same thing along with good music, sports on the TV and people of any country to get to know. Yes, check to all of that and add in a pool table, a roulette with some old man’s face in the middle, and a cat sleeping over the bar table, enjoying the rays of the sun that come in through one of the windows of the terrace.

It’s also conveniently located to many fine places for sightseeing, bars, restaurants, or streets where you can just walk by and feel the everyday coming and going of Santa Marta and its people.

There are also some night activities and happy hours on the bar, and there is another big bar table on the roof along with tables and chairs, so the place is good enough to stay there the whole day. Late at night, you may come across a group of foreigners who are returning from a party, and may be sitting on the terrace, just chilling and talking about their travels.

There are many affordable accommodation options as well, in the form of private and shared rooms. The last time I went there, they even had an adjacent building, which had even lower fares and connected with to the main bar.

On these pandemic days, I’d really like to go back to a place like Brisa Loca!
